Each year, the PHS College and Career Center offers the Armed Services Vocational and Aptitude Battery Career Exploration Program (ASVAB CEP) assessment in December. This test is an invaluable tool to help students with their future educational and career plans. Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are eligible to sit for the assessment, and may take it more than once.
The ASVAB CEP will help your student:
- Learn about themselves and the world of work
- Explore occupations in line with their interests and skills
- Develop an effective strategy to realize their career goals and education goals
One of the scores of the ASVAB is the military services’ entrance score which your student can use to explore career options in the military. The student’s ASVAB scores will not be released to the military. If the student wants to give the score to the military, it is their responsibility to do that.
The computerized ASVAB test is adaptive, meaning the test tailors to the examinee’s ability level. The assessment consists of nine subtests, a total of 145 items. It is self-paced and generally takes about 1.5 hours to complete. Extra time is allotted for each subtest because the test is catered to each individual.
About a month after the assessment, students will attend a Post-Test Interpretation session with a trained evaluator. These composite scores help students understand their verbal, math, and science/technical skills. These are used exclusively for career exploration purposes. The ASVAB Summary Results (ASR) sheet includes a unique access code each student can use to login to this site and complete the post-test activities.
